Graduate Student Associate Program

The South Asia Initiative is pleased to offer its Graduate Student Associate Program for 2012-2013.
The goal of the SAI Graduate Student Associates is to establish a community of peers, supporting original and independent research in South Asia.

The duties of a SAI Graduate Student Associate include:

  • Mentoring undergraduate students in areas of South Asian studies
  • Contributing to the Harvard University community by presenting research through a workshop, lecture, or event
  • Interviewing future applicants to the SAI Graduate Student Associate Program
  • Organize a mini workshop at Harvard with students from peer institutions

Each Graduate Associate is awarded a research stipend, and offered a desk space and computer as space permits, on the 4th floor of the CGIS South Building.

SAI invites proposals in any discipline or field in South Asian Studies and encourages work in/on all of South Asia as well as the study of South Asia in larger connective contexts.

Eligibility: Doctoral degree candidates from all Harvard academic departments and professional schools are eligible to apply. Applicants from the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences should have completed their General Examinations and commenced research on their dissertation. Applicants from the professional schools should be conducting a major research project related to South Asia.

Six applicants will be selected for the SAI Graduate Student Associate Program for 2012-2013.
