The SAI Research Affiliates Program accepts a limited number of researchers and faculty each year whose area of interest is South Asia. Research Affiliates will contribute to the academic study of South Asia on campus by bringing their expertise on a wide range of issues to the University.
SAI allows for applications from scholars, professors and researchers who have completed a Ph.D., who are visitors at Harvard, or are in residence in the New England region, whose presence at the University can support Harvard faculty and student research.
Research Affiliates are appointed by the SAI Committee for a one year academic term after review of a submitted CV, letter of interest which outlines current area(s) of research, along with a reference to a Harvard faculty member working in the affiliates’ field of study.
SAI Research Affiliates will receive a Harvard ID that provides library privileges to the 70+ Harvard University Libraries. In addition, Research Affiliates will receive regular mailings and invitations to Harvard/SAI events, lectures and symposia. SAI Research Affiliates are encouraged to participate in and/or organize seminars based on SAI faculty research interests at least once during the academic year. In addition, Research Affiliates are asked to be available to Harvard students and scholars for research inquiries related to their area of research.
Affiliates are appointed without stipend, and they are expected to provide their own funding and living expenses. Affiliates are not housed in SAI offices, and must independently arrange for workspace as well as administrative support.
Applications for the SAI Affiliated Research program are due by June 30 and successful candidates will be notified by August 1 of the calendar year.
